Our clients wanted an outdoor porch design and love to garden. They asked us to create an outdoor living space to capture the rustic charm of the golf course community in Cattail Creek. Their ideal landscape design plan included:
We began the landscape design plan by creating a classic wraparound porch equipped with a variety of features.
Brick support piers tie in with the brick details on the home and hardi board panels give the wraparound porch a solid look down to the sloping grade. The panels also serve a dual function because we added a large storage space underneath the porch at our client’s request.

The stairs transition the 9 in. change in grade down to the natural cleft PA Flagstone dining patio. A cedar pergola evokes architectural charm and gives special definition to the outdoor patio design. The earthy colors of the custom patio, which was crafted using Shenandoah wall stone, seamlessly blend in with the garden. The wood burning fireplace makes this space the perfect place to spend an evening with friends and family.
The balcony off the sunroom reflects the porch design details and provides a spot to enjoy views from the garden. The grill station is equipped with a professional grill and a side power burner for summertime crab feasts.
The oversized counter top leaves plenty of space for cooking. The gardens envelope the entire area providing colorful views our clients love.

We faced numerous challenges when creating this landscape design plan in Cattail Creek, Maryland. The porch roof needed to follow the corners of the house and a cricket was required at the breakfast room bump out to slope the water away from the corner.
The house veneer was a porous manufactured stone. This required the stone to be cut and removed so that the flashing extends up the side of the house. It was a very tedious process because the stone needed to go back as close as possible to the way it previously was.
The septic line for the house ran out under the porch and through the brick wall. We added a steel lentil to bridge the wall and allow the pipe to safely run through it. We also included an open flowing transition from the basement walkout, porch stairs, and the lawn area so our clients can fit a lawn mower in the storage space beneath the porch. Gas lines run to the grill station and hose spigots extend out to the façade of the porch.
