As our spring garden project, we created a loggia and pool room garden inspired by four glazed urns we found from Campania International. The striking Isleta urn from their “Art Pottery” collection was the perfect piece to add the desired level of whimsical character needed to pull off a show garden. Working to uncover the true potential of a neglected backyard space also led to an inspiring vision of connecting the long stretch of the unique backyard into three design “vignettes.”
The end result is a stunning garden design with subtle splashes of color, featuring a beautiful combination of hardscapes and plantings that includes:
Project Challenges
Our biggest challenge creating a spring garden in D.C. was the weather. We had a limited amount of time to get our project built and the snow and rain continually hampered our efforts. In the end, our landscapers dedicated over 300 hours to this project.
Beyond the inclement weather, the challenge was figuring out how to address connecting the back door of the house with the pool area and bridging the complex change in grade over the span of our space.
We overcame these challenges to create a spring garden with a one-of-a-kind look we love. Please purchase tickets to view the finished result for yourself and don’t forget to vote for your favorite design. We hope you enjoy our garden as much we do!
