Landscape Design-Build Firm
The landscape planting design is what creates the environment of the garden. Proper Plant material selection is critical to the success of a landscape design project and the happiness of the client.
At Botanical Decorators, a residential landscape design-build firm serving DC, MD and VA, we strive to create attractive, sensible landscape designs that capture visual interest and remain easy to maintain. More specifically, we can use plant material to set the mood of the space, provide definition within the garden and bring together the stonework and masonry and other structural elements. Similar to how an architect will select building materials to create the structure, as Landscape Architects we use plant material to form the structure of the garden landscape design.
The landscape plantings are selected and designed with contrasting or complimenting textures, colors and seasonal interest all based upon what effects the landscape designer wants to achieve and the look the client is expecting.
Effects such as soft textures of ornamental grasses can be combined with stronger defined shapes such as broadleaf evergreens. Canopy trees can form a ceiling for the garden design and provide much needed shade while border perennials introduce splashes of accent color and seasonal interest.
A landscape design that incorporates large sweeps of plant material with fewer varieties will produce a very pleasing effect with lower landscape maintenance requirements. A more detailed cottage design is appropriate for smaller garden designs or patio areas where greater variety is required and the additional landscape maintenance is acceptable.
There are many considerations to be made as plant material is selected for the project such as the drainage patterns, soil composition, spatial requirements, sun exposure, wind exposure, susceptibility to wildlife damage and the list goes on.
The planting design is a critical component of the outdoor living environment and Botanical Decorators uses their talent, knowledge and love of plants to bring together the finest garden environments for our clients.
